Fall Home Tour

Welcome to my home (well part of it) and this Fall Home Tour Blog Hop! Myself and a few other wonderful bloggers are showing off our homes all decorated for fall! I hope you can gather some inspiration from what we used! if you are coming from Heather at Beauty for Ashes, I hope you enjoy your visit (and is that pew in her home just to greatest piece ever?!)

The dining room is the hub of our home, this is where homework is completed, where we gather every night for supper and the room that we always celebrate with family and friends. We are in the middle of somehow decor changes and renovations so I wanted to tie in all the elements. My buffet and hutch houses all of my excess decor and party platters. When I first brought it into my home I felt overwhelmed at trying to fill the shelves! A few trips to the thrift store, some spray paint and a few flea market finds and the shelves have filled up nicely! My goal was to keep your eyes moving towards the centre with the platters and sign. Adding a little colour with the cool green pumpkins, balancing heights on the ends.

Fun tip, in some of the pitchers and large goblets, the pumpkins and foliage were sinking too far down! So I remedied it by taking some newspaper and crumpling it up. Placing the crumpled paper in the bottoms and then placing the decor on top!

The smaller glass door buffer again has simple pops of colour. The hard part was the corner! I have a antique blue painted chair sitting there but it was looking out of place with all of the warm rustic colours! Placing a fall scarf on the corner and the vintage washboard, I picked up at the flea market this summer, it seems to blend in nicely to the background.

The table was my goal this year! My budget was pretty small (I prefer to shop for fall decor AFTER the season has passed to get some 60-80% off deals) but I really wanted to invest in a gorgeous tablescape. This meant being creative and carefully thinking about every purchase. Our table is a warm oak (someday that will change but not this year!), the dishes are from Walmart and the Pioneer Woman brand and a warm cream colour, and the chargers were bought last year at Micheals for 50% off. Using a roll of burlap I had on hand from the dollar store, I unrolled the burlap and cut it in the middle and laid the two pieces side by side to create a simple and cheap table runner. Using the fall foliage and pumpkins we spread them out to cover the middle of the two pieces of burlap.

The napkins were the most expensive purchase at $3.98/piece (and were originally 7.99! So a good score). This was thought out ahead. I wanted napkins I could use for more then one season, they needed to go with the cream plates and the bronze chargers (my Christmas ones are a dark green so I was keeping that in mind too). These were at Pier1Imports in the clearance section! I know I can put these out again to go with the green charger and maybe Valentines day? I tied them with some burlap twine (again dollar store and it was sitting in a  drawer because isn’t this a staple of any craft hoarder?). The pumpkins were again a bargain at $6 for 8 from Homesense. I needed a napkin ring but twine and a pumpkin gives a nicer more unique touch!

Another well thought out purchase was the brass candle sticks. I found them at Value Village for $1-3 piece. They are a lovely staple I know I can use again and again in my decor. Now fun fact for Value Village, if you take a donation you receive a coupon! So purge and score!

The kitchen shelves received a little fall touch with more pumpkins and foliage. The girls went through the quotes on Pinterest and picked the one they thought fit this season the best and then I embarrassed myself with calligraphy and chalk! (I love calligraphy, love watching it but it is not my strength).

The fireplace is another project for another day and we decorated it simply with more pun kinds and some garland. Using a vintage ceiling tile to anchor (centre?…obviously not a professional and not sure of the proper terminology!) and worked around that beauty! Quick story, the ceiling tile came from our home home on Pancake Hill!

Even Kathleen’s piano receives a little autumn love with more pumpkins and a sweet vintage handkerchief. paint decorated for fall with antique music book and embroiled handkerchief

The living room as the easiest to add some fall decor. The couch already had drop cloth slipcover pillows and removing one slip over revealed a mustard cushion! Adding one fall pillows and a few pumpkins and another blanket scarf and we are now ready for fall!
